Today is opening day for MLB, not counting an "opening night" game last night in Washington and the two games Oakland and Boston played in Japan last week. For the next week or so, major league baseball cities will be hosting season or home openers. Does it feel like spring yet???
There's something about the start of the baseball season that's different than other professional sports--a sort of pomp and circumstance. Why is that?
It could be because baseball, more than the other sports, is a game of tradition and history. Or perhaps because it's more than a celebration of baseball, but a celebration of spring and a coming summer as well.
Whatever the reason, it's a chance for every fan of every team to feel optimistic about their chances this year (even for us poor fans in Pittsburgh).
Our home opener for the Pirates isn't until next Monday against the Cubs, and I'm looking forward to attending. I haven't made it to a home opener in eight years (since high school) because of college and work schedules. And this year, my college roommate and huge Cubs fan will be flying in for the game as well.
Happy spring baseball fans, and best of luck to your favorite teams this year!

Woot woot! I'm excited for the season, despite my team losing Torii Hunter and Johan Santana. Go Twins!

1Doesn't quite feel like Spring just yet, but I'm still ready for baseball! I hope I can get into Nationals Park sometime this year and I hope the Red Sox take it all!
2I just ordered Twins/Brewers tickets for June 29. I take my nephew to a Twins game for his birthday every year. I can't wait!
It doesn't feel like spring here at all, it's snowing right now but watching baseball will cheer me up tonight!

3Oh, what a cute idea! I always talk about taking my grandfather to a game, but I also know that as much as he'd enjoy it, I'd also have to listen to constant griping and moaning about prices, even though I'd be paying for everything!
Feels miserable here.
I wonder if any Nats' tix are available still...
4It hasn't felt like spring yet here either. The weather says it's supposed to hit 60 today though, despite the rain.
I hope it's warm enough next Monday...I don't want to shiver through a baseball game. Remember how cold it was for the start of baseball last year???
5Yes, it was colder last year too. It'd be nice if it was at least 50 here but at least we still have the Metrodome for now.

6We went to an April game 2 years ago, I think, and literally froze to death. But it was reminescent of one of our first dates, so that part was kinda fun.
Sometimes I think I'd prefer an indoor field. No cold early in the season and miserably hot in the middle of it!
7Yay! Go Tigers!!!
8Juicy, the Tigers should do well, their lineup is stacked with good hitters!

9Yeah, it is! I can see them in the world series this year! *keeps fingers crossed*
10A couple of the Baseball Tonight Analysts picked the Tigers to do well!
Tigers, Braves, Indians, Red Sox, and Cubbies.
I gotta say, when it comes down to
it, go Cubbies!
11I've been trying to get tickets, but they're all sold out. I think I'm going to have to try StubHub or something. My dad knows a guy at work, so hopefully that will come through, too!
12I heard there are no seats available in Detroit this year. It's crazy how early teams sell out these days. Good luck getting seats!
13Yeah, I can't get any from Ticketmaster at all. Either my dad can talk to his buddy who has season tickets, or I can pay more. That's how I got them last year, too.
Thank you!!
14Whew. I'm not sure that I'd want to pay more! We usually get tix to the Red Sox games when they come down here to Baltimore and those seats are long gone! All the Boston people fly down to the games.
15Jeez. Looks like it's gonna be hard for everyone to get tickets this season!
16I can get tickets to crappy games. But I'm not sure that I want to pay an arm and a leg (and food and parking) for those seats, you know?
17I wouldn't either, really.
18I like the Cubs too!
Have any of you bought tickets from Stubhub.com? We tried getting Vikings tickets from Ticketmaster last year and nothing good was available but some season ticket holder couldn't make it and sold his seats on Stubhub so we got lower deck seats. They sell tickets for the major sports from what I remember.

19I bought tickets from StubHub for a Tigers game last season. It was a Tigers/Mets game. I paid $15 more than I normally would, and we had AWESOME seats. It was a great time.
I've been trying to get Steelers tickets from there, too.
20I'm glad that site exists, it may be the only way I can get Wild tickets. They pretty much sell out single game seats in a couple hours.
I didn't mind paying a little extra for our seats either since they were so good.

21Good luck getting them!
22I've never tried StubHub, but maybe I'll have to check them out. Would love to get some Red Sox tix if at all possible.
Go Cubbies!
23Luckily getting Pirates tickets is almost never a problem. Except for the Yankees series this year, I doubt any are sold out. My dad buys a 20-game plan, plus tix for the Yankee series and the home opener, and the Pirates give you like six more games as you choose. Honestly it ends up being more than we can go to (and yet I go to 40+ hockey games a year and it's not a hassle at all). So if anyone want to go to a Pirates game...
I have friends who sold a lot of their hockey tickets on StubHub this year and made quite a bit of money. I know the Penguins recently started their own ticket exchange program with TicketMaster, for season ticket holders to sell their tickets online...maybe the MLB teams will do that as well?
24We keep talking about seeing the Pittsburgh stadium one of these days, but we just never seem to have enough time. Somehow.
It's one of the closer ballparks and we're trying to see all of them, albeit really slowly.
Any idea how far Cleveland would be ???
25You'd be coming from DC-area right? Cleveland's another two hours on the turnpike past Pittsburgh.
26My dad is a huge Pirates fan. I like them, too. I hope they do better this season!
27Cleveland's ballpark is pretty nice...I took my dad for his b-day a few years ago when I was home for vacation and the Pirates were out of town.
28Does anyone play fantasy baseball? I did a free one on Yahoo sports.

29Okay, so Cleveland and Pittsburgh would be pretty do-able in a long weekend. I thought so, but I had to check! Two cities we've never been to. But then I feel like I should explore the cities a little while I'm there as well.
30I've always thought about fantasy baseball, but I'm not sure that I could keep up with it.
31I know, the yahoo one keeps me on my toes with finding out starting pitchers and getting the right ones in the lineup. I usually do it once a week and let it go. Unless I hear some injury report or something.

32Maybe I'll give one a shot this year. Of course, then I have to remember to keep up!
33You should go to Pittsburgh if you can, ALSW. It's a beautiful city.
34I'd love to go to Pittsburgh sometime. My BF loves the Steelers so to surprise him with a trip and tickets would be awesome.

35That would be amazing. I'd be super jealous.
haha
36My husband hates the Steelers! But then, he's a (stupid) Patriots fan, so I suppose it's in the blood or something.
I really want to get to Pittsburgh and Cleveland one of these days. Just wish I had more time to do it!
We're going to be lucky if we can go to more than Nationals Park this year.
